【General Introduction】
Heyuan is situated in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province and the
mid-upper reaches of the Dongjiang River. It exercises
jurisdiction over Yuancheng District, Dongyu
an, Heping, Longchuan, Zijin and
Lianping Counties, with an area of 15,800 square kilometers
and a population of 3,412,600.
【History】
Heyuan was in the south of ancient Yangzhou. In the first year of Yongming's
Reign of the Southern Dynasty (A.D. 483), part of
Longchuan County became Heyuan County. With a history of more than 2000
years, Heyuan is known as the ancient home of Hakkas people and a land of
greenness.
【Economy】
In terms of economy, Heyuan had been backward in the past, but began to
accelerate in 2006. The city's GDP went up by 27.3
percent compared with the previous year, marking a new high. Heyuan ranks
among the fastest-growing district-level municipalities in
Guangdong. The city boasts quite a few famous brands, including a variety of
top brand names in the province.
Meizhou City
【General Introduction】
Meizhou is located in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province,
bordering on Fujian Province and Jiangxi Province. It covers
an area of 15,836 square kilometers. Its current jurisdiction includes
Meijiang District, Xingning City and six counties of Meixian, Pingyuan,
Jiaoling, Dabu, Fengshun and Wuhua, with a total population of 5 million.
Mountains and hills account for almost 90% of the city's total area.
【History】
Meizhou has a history of more than 1000 years. During its development and
evolution, Hakka culture has incorporated cultures
from the Central Plains, Baiyue and South Asia and has become unique in its
own right. So far, 130 traditional cultural varieties have been
preserved, such as Hakka folk songs, Guangdong Han Opera, Tea-picking Drama,
Muppet, Zhuma Dance, Boat Lamp, Fiery Dragon and
Huahuanlong Dance. It is also home to many historical celebrities like Ye
Jianying and Huang Zunxian, as well as 120 cultural
scenic spots.
【Economy】
In recent years, with the implementation of the new development strategy ,
Meizhou's economic and social causes have
registered a healthy, coordinated, rapid and sustained development. Great
strides has also been made in the field of biological environmental
protection. At present, the city has a forest of 4002 square kilometers and
the forest coverage is up to 72%.

Heyuan Shixia Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site
The Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site is located in Shixia, Yuancheng District,
Heyuan City. Since the first litter of dinosaur egg fossil was discovered
in March 1996, over 13,000 different dinosaur egg fossils, 8 skeleton fossils
and more than 200 foot-print fossils have been excavated. It is
the only place in the world to currently boast dinosaur eggs, skeletons and
footprint fossils. Heyuan City was named the "Chinese hometown
of dinosaurs" by the National Geological Authority in 2005. The plan to build
a dinosaur park was listed as a key project in the eleventh five-
year plan by the Guangdong Government in 2006.
Tuocheng
Tuocheng of Longchuan County, renowned as a famous town during the Qin,
Han and Tang Dynasties, is one of Guangdong's first historical
and cultural cities. Since the reign of the King of Nanyue in 214 BC,
Tuocheng had remained Longchuan's political, economic and cultural
centre until the Republican Period. It has many places of interest such as
Yuewang Well, Zhaotuo Former Residence, Yuewang Temple and
Confucius Temple.

Ye Jianying Memorial Garden
The Ye Jianying Memorial Garden is located in Huxing Village, Yanyang Town,
Meixian County. It was built to commemorate the Chinese
communist general Ye Jianying. The initial construction covers an area of
321,494 square metres divided into four sections. With Ye's former
residence in the centre, the cultural section reserves the original
buildings, trees and ponds. The biological forest section has winding mountain
paths with corridors, pavilions and stone sculptures. The recreational
section contains simulations of military training centres, farms,
arboretums and Hakka streets. The core section is the Ye Jianying memorial
with an exhibition area of 2,000 square metres. Exhibits include
more than 600 pictures, many scripts, historical liferature, the most

Hakka Clay-constructed Hua'e Building
It is located in Lianfeng Village, Dadong Town, Dabu County and boasts a
history of 400 years. It covers a land area of 2300 square metres
with a floor area of 2286 square metres. It is a round architecture with a
three-ring adobe and wood structure and 210 rooms. The building is
11.9 metres tall. It has a patio of 283.4 square metres with cobblestones.
The centre has an ancient coin pattern with a diameter of 3 metres
indicating enough food and clothes. The patio also has a well for fire
prevention and water supply. The whole building is warm in winter and
cool in summer. Now more than 10 families surnamed Lin still live here.
Meixian County Yearning Tea Field
The Meixian County Yearning Tea Field is owned by one of Meizhou City's
pillar companies, Guangdong Baohuali Group Co. Ltd.. It is
located in Meixian Country's Yanyang Town, covering a land of 450 hectares.
It is a bio-agricultural centre and holiday resort featuring tea

World's Hakka City
Meizhou is the world's largest Hakka inhabited place and is justifiably
known as "World Hakkas City". It is one of the best renowned
birthplaces for Hakka people in China , with more than 3 million overseas
Chinese scattering in 63 countries and regions. Most of them live in
Southeast Asia, accounting for 90 percent of the total overseas Chinese from
Meizhou. Meizhou City holds the Hakka folk song tourist
festival every two years starting from 2004 and attracts many overseas

Building New-style Rural Areas
First is the industry-led type. For example, Xudong Village of Xiantang Town
of
Dongyuan County set up an industrial park preparation office
and industrial park development company limited. They founded an industrial
park of 333,500 square metres.
Second is the special industry type. For instance, Zhongcun Village of
Shangping Town , Lianping County specialises in peach production.
Now, the peach industry has become a local pillar industry and Zhongguan
Village is considered "the home of China's hawk-mouth peach."
Third is the comprehensive development type. For example, Jinshi Village of
Shuntian Town, Dongyuan County, Dengtaliyuan Village and
Shiyuan Village of Taihu Town, Lianping County have made great progress in
that direction.
Fourth is the company-led type. For instance, with strong support from
Guangzhou Jiutianlu Enterprise Co., Ltd., Qiaotou Village of
Shuangjiang Town, Dongyuan County has developed a TCM centre of 200,100
square metres and pig farms of 4,500 square metres. The
villageraises 320 sows that can give birth to more than 6,000 piglets per

Xinfengjiang Reservoir
The Xinfengjiang Reservoir is a national 4A tourist attraction and
Guangdong's environmental protection educational centre. In the late 1950s,
a 124-metre tall, 5-metre wide and 440-metre long concrete dam was built on
Yaposhan Canyon, the narrowest place of Xinfengjiang
riverway. And thus South China's No. 1 artificial lake, Xinfengjiang
Reservoir (Wanlu Lake) came into being. The lake covers water area of
370 square kilometers, which reserves 13.98 billion cubic meters of water.
The Wanlu Lake's beautiful scenery earns the reputation of "the
sea among mountains".There are over 360 green islands on the lake with a
green ratio of 98 percent. The Wanlu Lake is home to 758 plants
and 140 other species. Its fine green environment makes it a natural oxygen
bar. The temperature and humidity is above the best environment
standard of biology test. The Wanlu Lake water is pure and drinkable. It is
an important water source for the middle and lower reaches of
Dongjian River and supplies water to Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The measure of
"touring in the lake, living outside the lake" was adopted to
protect the water quality. The Wanlu Lake organizes events featuring natural
scenery and Hakka culture every year.
Xinfengjiang Hydropower Station is a key project of China's first five-year
plan and also the hydropower station with the largest capability in
South China. Construction started on 15 July 1958 and supplied power on 25
October 1960. It was a miracle in China's hydropower
construction history. It was designed, constructed and installed by China.
With four units, its present capability is 335,000 kilowatts.
Xinfengjiang Hydropower Station's dam body is 124 metres tall, 5 metres wide
and 440 metres long. It is the world's first dam with an over
100-metre height that can stand more than 6 degrees' earthquakes .
Xinfengjiang Hydropower Station is a tourist attraction that combines
natural scenery and hydropower and shows the beauty of the nature and the
beauty of creativity.
